The Man in Black: A Tribute to Johnny Cash
March 28
9pm Eastern
Get Details

With his strikingly similar looks, baritone voice, and spot-on mannerisms, Shawn Barker’s uncanny resemblance to the original “Man In Black” revitalizes the true character and spirit of Mr. Cash himself, one of America’s greatest musical icons, for a truly one-of-a-kind show.  The energetic show features Barker in character throughout the entire evening, walking the audience through each era of Cash’s life and music, including hits like “Folsom Prison Blues,” “I Walk The Line,” “A Boy Named Sue,” “Hurt” and “Ring of Fire,” complete with a full backing band.

Shawn Barker’s first Man In Black show was held in 2004 at a casino in Niagara Falls and has since performed over 1,000 shows in 12 countries, selling more than half a million tickets over the course of his career.  Born and raised in a working-class suburb of St. Louis, Barker took a schoolboy love for singing in church with his family and turned it into a career.  The path to his current success wasn’t a straight line from gospel choir to Johnny Cash tribute act.  After serving his country in the Army, Barker returned home to Missouri, took a job as a carpenter, and spent all of his free time learning how to play the guitar.  He developed strength and versatility in his voice by modeling his crooning on a cast of legends – Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly and Gene Vincent.  His performances quickly turned from hobby to profession, but oddly enough, Barker’s first touring gigs were portraying Elvis, not Johnny Cash.  Everything changed, however, when Barker was asked to audition for the part of Cash in a Hollywood production, as it became evident to the director and Barker himself that Johnny Cash was his true calling.  From that point there was no turning back.

Lita Ford’s career began in 1975 as a founding member and guitarist of the groundbreaking all female group the Runaways.  The group’s hard rock/punk edge spawned hits like “Cherry Bomb” and “Queens of Noise.”  Lita and the Runaways proved their timelessness in 2014 when “Cherry Bomb” was featured in the critically acclaimed Marvel/Disney Studios hit movie “Guardians Of The Galaxy” and was nominated for a Grammy Award.

In 1983 Lita launched her carrier as a solo artist with her début album “Out For Blood,” establishing her as the premier female performer in rock and Heavy Metal.  Lita quickly followed up in 1984 with the release of “Dancin’ on the Edge” which earned her a Grammy nomination in the Best Female Rock Vocal Performance category.  The album produced the world charting single “Fire In My Heart” and the U.S. Billboard top 50 charting hit “Gotta Let Go.”  The song, along with the video being in MTV’s top rotation began to make Ford a household name and face.

While perhaps best known as the lead singer of 80’s sensation, Twisted Sister, there is so much more to Dee Snider.  He has starred in several reality TV shows including appearances in three seasons of Celebrity Apprentice; Gone Country with John Rich; MTV’s Rock The Cradle with his son Jesse; Growing Up Twisted, an A&E series featuring the entire Snider family and their Long Island lifestyle; ABC’s Celebrity Wife Swap, and Celebrity Holiday Homes.  He is also a frequent host on MTV Networks and his own long running nationally syndicated radio show House Of Hair is heard on more than 200 stations in North America.  His career as a voiceover artist has resulted in Dee being heard in many radio and TV commercials, documentaries and a year long stint as the voice on MSNBC.

Never setting limits, Dee wrote, produced and starred in Dee Snider’s StrangeLand.  This horror flick has become a horror classic, literally creating the torture film sub-genre.  StrangeLand 2 is currently in development. With the success of StrangeLand, Dee was tapped to host a weekly radio show on all things horror, Fangoria Radio, on the Sirius network.

In 2002, VH1 signed Dee to star as himself in their original movie production of Warning: Parental Advisory. Co-starring Mariel Hemingway, Jason Priestley and Griffin Dunne, Dee re-created his role during the congressional record labeling hearings of the mid 1980’s.  Battling the Beltway wives, most notably Tipper Gore, Dee, along with Frank Zappa and John Denver, turned DC politics upside down, carrying the banner of Dee’s Twisted Sister legendary anthem “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”

Wayne Newton

Legend.  Icon.  World renowned, record-setting performer.  Actor.  The Midnight Idol.  Mr. Entertainment. USO Ambassador and passionate supporter of veterans and active duty service members.

No other name or person is so defining, representative or synonymous with Las Vegas and the entertainment capital of the world than Mr. Las Vegas himself–

Wayne Newton.

Recognized and revered around the world, entertainment superstar Wayne Newton is known for his iconic signature song, “Danke Schoen” in addition to countless other top hit singles including, “Daddy, Don’t You Walk So Fast,” “Red Roses for a Blue Lady,” “At This Moment,” “The Letter,” “Summer Wind” and “Years.”

Newton has recorded and released, to date, an astounding 165 albums in his career.  In a volatile, unforgiving industry where careers and successes can appear and disappear like vapors, Wayne Newton resides atop the “Mount Rushmore of Entertainers” etched in music history.

Wayne Newton has performed live in front of more than 40 million people during a record-setting run of 25,000-plus shows in Las Vegas, alone.  He recently made his historic and triumphant return to the landmark Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel & Casino where he continues to perform his Up Close and Personal show, a journey through his illustrious Vegas career featuring hit songs and personal stories.

This remarkably gifted artist, who can perform 13 different musical instruments on stage, has done so throughout his career without ever being able to read a single note of music.  Wayne’s rare and unique abilities only further epitomize the wealth of talent, glamour and unquenchable energy that is–Las Vegas.

In addition to his live prowess on stage, Newton has long since established himself as an accomplished and sought after actor–both on television and the silver screen.  Discovered as a kid by actor Jackie Gleason who became his mentor, Newton’s first roles as a kid on “Bonanza” and “The Lucy Show” blossomed into adulthood –having appeared in such memorable movies as “Vegas Vacation” and the classic James Bond thriller, “License to Kill,” and most recently appeared in the hit comedy series “Hacks.”

Born in rural Virginia, Wayne knew early on, at age four, that he was born to entertain.  He had his first radio show at the age of six years old and then at the ripe old age of nine, he landed his first television show in Phoenix, Arizona–where his family had moved due to Wayne’s childhood asthma affliction.   Not to be detoured, the now 15-year-old professional entertainer soon found himself performing six shows a night/six nights a week on stage at the Fremont Hotel in Las Vegas.  Young Wayne Newton was not legally old enough to be a customer at the casino/resort, but the now “seasoned” performer was certainly talented enough to be entertaining nightly in the city known as the epicenter of the entertainment world.

Blessed with an exceptional work ethic as well as the energy and heart to give 100% to each and every performance, Newton also displayed an innate gift and ability to “connect” with his audience each and every night–adeptly tailoring and crafting each show to the needs and moods of each individual audience.  Wayne knew and loved his audiences and they responded in kind each night throughout the years.

Deep, heartfelt patriotism has always resided at the very core of Wayne Newton.  He has made it his duty and honor to have entertained troops in every major conflict our nation has encountered since Vietnam–where he traveled to twice.  Cited as one of his greatest personal honors, Wayne was named the “Chairman of the USO Celebrity Circle,” a passing of the torch from Bob Hope and the USO Commission to Wayne Newton in the year 2000.  From 2001 through 2004, Wayne directed and participated in a total of 16 USO overseas tours.  Newton was the first performer to entertain troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.  President George H. Bush honored Wayne with a private reception at the White House in 2001 to salute him, thank him and show the nation’s gratitude for his unwavering patriotism.  Wayne Newton summed up his feelings about those who served with this quote: “Entertaining our men and women of the Armed Forces overseas has been one of the true highlights of my entire life.”

Wayne was also recognized by the United States Department of Defense when they bestowed upon him its highest civilian award for being the ONLY American entertainer to have performed in ALL of the respective countries of conflict.  Wayne was deeply honored by this special acknowledgment.

Las Vegas–never a city to be outdone–made its own history when it saluted Wayne Newton by making him one of only two people to receive the city’s own Medal of Honor.  In addition, he was also named the “Ambassador of Goodwill” by the state of Nevada.  The honors continued when Las Vegas McCarran International Airport’s main thoroughfare was renamed “Wayne Newton Boulevard.”  Las Vegas continues to honor Newton by naming him one of the “Top Three Entertainers of the Century–in Nevada and around the World” along with his dear friends and fellow performers, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.

Wayne Newton has an embedded star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as well as the very first one etched into the Las Vegas Walk of Fame.

As you can see, Wayne Newton is “Mr. Las Vegas” for good reason.  And he remains ever-present in the city he helped make famous.

You’ll find him either on stage at The Flamingo, tending to his world famous Arabian horses, or in attendance at either a Las Vegas Golden Knights NHL hockey game or Las Vegas Raiders NFL football game…or ultimately doing something meaningful and important to help and support others in his city or for his country.

As one notable entertainment mogul once said:  “Las Vegas without Wayne Newton is like Disneyland without Mickey Mouse.”

That they are still roaring and soaring should be no surprise.  That’s just how they are built.  TESLA may have been born in the mid 80s, but their bluesy, soulful sound is strongly embedded in the roots of organic, authentic, 1970s rock and roll.  The same roots that produced bands like The Allman Brothers, Grand Funk Railroad, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Aerosmith.

The ground started shaking in Sacramento, Calif., in 1984; gold country that would soon be producing some platinum.  They started out as City Kidd, until a suggested name change to TESLA, honoring the eccentric inventor Nikola Tesla who pioneered all things electrical.  Their 1986 platinum debut album, Mechanical Resonance, included Top 40 hits “Modern Day Cowboy” and “Little Suzi.”  1989’s double-platinum The Great Radio Controversy included hits “Heaven’s Trail (No Way Out)” and “Love Song.”  Suddenly, TESLA, who had been touring with bands such as Def Leppard and David Lee Roth, earned headlining status.  In 1990, TESLA helped reshape the face of modern rock music by stripping down to the Five Man Acoustical Jam, an informal collection of their biggest hits peppered with rock and roll classics by the Beatles, Stones, and others.  This album produced their biggest hit single to date, a cover of Five Man Electrical Band’s “Signs.”  Other 90s albums from Tesla include platinum selling Psychotic Supper and Bust a Nut.  The band continues to record and release material including 9 new albums since 2000 and recently debuted their new single, “Time To Rock!”

TESLA has endured many of the same taste-changing challenges that affected many in the post-grunge world, but through it all, their blue-collar work ethic and dedication to the faithful fan base has helped them not just survive, but thrive.  TESLA’s legacy is alive and well as they continue to record and sellout venues all over the world.  As comfortable, rugged, and dependable as your favorite pair of boots, they endure.  TESLA is a celebration of the greatest spirits of rock and roll.

Ace Frehley – Performing all of your favorite KISS Hits!
July 4

The only thing more recognizable than Ace Frehley’s signature “Spaceman” makeup is his guitar playing.

Those thundering riffs and singable solos have enshrined him as one of the most influential, inspiring, and impactful musicians of all-time.  Simply put, rock ‘n’ roll and heavy metal wouldn’t sound, look, or feel the same without him.  Among hundreds of accolades, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame® inducted him in 2014 as a Co-founder and the original lead guitarist of Kiss.  Guitar World named him in the Top 15 of its “100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time” and plugged the lead from “Shock Me” on the “50 Greatest Guitar Solos of All Time.”  Magnifying the imprint of his catalog as a solo artist, Foo Fighters cut a fan favorite cover of “Ozone,” and he even jammed out “New York Groove” alongside The Roots on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.  The late Dimebag Darrell of Pantera proudly sported a tattoo of Frehley on his chest, while Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine celebrated him on X/Twitter as “My first guitar hero.”  Embedded in popular culture, he also, penned the New York Times bestselling memoir “No Regrets,” and packed venues everywhere on tour for decades.

However, the GRAMMY® Award-nominated Bronx-born legend continues to elevate and electrify rock ‘n’ roll with his tenth full-length solo offering, 10,000 Volts [MNRK Heavy].

The record upholds an incredible legacy for Frehley, spanning 50-plus years in the limelight.  Back in 1978, he delivered his solo debut, Ace Frehley.  It reached platinum status and exploded as “the highest-selling of the four Kiss solo albums in the Soundscan era.”  Pitchfork even retrospectively rated it a rare “8.5” score.  During 1987, he dropped Frehley’s Comet, followed by 2009’s Anomaly.  In 2014, he made history once again.  His Space Invader LP captured #9 on the Billboard 200 and emerged as “The only solo album by a past or current Kiss member to reach the Top 10 on the chart.”  Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, Slash, Lita Ford, and John 5 jumped at the chance to collaborate with him on 2016’s Origins Vol. 1, bowing at #1 on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums Chart and in the Top 5 of the Billboard Top Rock Albums Chart.  He notably maintained his momentum with Spaceman [2018] and Origins Vol. 2 [2020].  Applauding the latter, Forbes proclaimed, “The idea of fun has always defined ‘The Spaceman’s’ best work but never more so than on the cover songs that make up the Origins releases.”

Jumpstarting his next chapter, he parlayed this energy into 10,000 Volts. He introduces this body of work with the first single and title track.  A surging riff sets the tone for “10,000 Volts” as his swaggering delivery takes hold and never lets go.  It culminates on the chantable chorus, “She hit me like 10,000 volts, when I saw her face,” giving way to a fret-burning guitar solo- of course!  Then, there’s “Walkin’ On The Moon.”  His voice rings out between towering distortion as a lovestruck hook echoes, “When I wake up, you’re all I see.  You got me walkin’ on the moon!”  His string bends practically engages in a call-and-response with the refrain, while another celestial solo resounds.  A mean palm-muted chug underlines his pensive vocals on “Cherry Medicine” where he confesses, “I knew I had to change my ways for sure to keep you by my side.”

Elsewhere, he beams out an otherworldly sonic frequency of his own on “Up In The Sky.”  He urges, “They’re up in the sky.  Girl, I know what I saw.  Can’t trust the news.  Can’t trust the law.”  A cinematic hum dissolves into melodic clean guitar on the instrumental finale “Stratosphere.”  Frehley’s evocative playing channels epic emotion with one of his most stunning and lyrical lead lines to date.

In the end, Frehley doesn’t need any makeup, because there’s nothing but uncontainable electricity at the heart of 10,000 Volts.  As it turns out, the man who once sang “Shock Me” is as much of a livewire as ever in 2024 and beyond.

KC & The Sunshine Band
July 11

KC and the Sunshine Band are still as widely popular today as they were when they first danced into the music scene 50 years ago.  Harry Wayne Casey—KC for short—developed a unique fusion of R&B and funk, with a hint of a Latin percussion groove, giving us an impressive string of hits like “Get Down Tonight,” “That’s The Way (I Like It)” and “Shake Your Booty.”  With sales of over 100 million records, nine Grammy nominations, three Grammy Awards and an American Music Award, KC and the Sunshine Band was one of the most progressive bands of the 70s and is credited with changing the sound of modern pop music.  Today, KC and the Sunshine Band play over 100 live shows annually, circling the country and playing dates regularly throughout Europe, Australia and South America.  This year KC will celebrate 50 years of entertaining us, writing songs, and performing around the world and has no intention of stopping.

In the last decade KC has continued to influence the dance and disco scene by releasing new music, most recently his single, “Unconditional Love featuring Bimbo Jones.”  In March of 2015 KC and the Sunshine Band released, “Feeling You! The 60s.”  The album was a tribute to the era that shaped KC into the revolutionary artist he became in the 70s.  Covers on the album include songs by sixties legends Bob Dylan, Ben E. King, The Kinks, The Righteous Brothers, Jackie DeShannon, Aaron Neville and many more.  Just like the rest of America during that time he was inspired by the music, innocence, sex, social and political movements and counterculture of the era, which led to him founding the Dance Revolution and teaching the world how to boogie.

“The widespread social and political issues of the 1960s was, in part, the inspiration to do something that would make people forget about their problems and be happy,” said Casey.  “People were looking for something that would divert their attention from the negative aspects of everyday life surrounding them.”

KC started working in the music business at age 17, performing menial tasks around the T.K. Records/Studio complex in his hometown of Miami.  The Sunshine Band originated in 1973.  Their first record, Blow Your Whistle, made the top 15 on the R&B chart.  Their second album, KC and the Sunshine Band, was released in 1975, went triple platinum and contained the #1 hits “Get Down Tonight,” “That’s the Way (I Like It),” “Boogie Shoes” and “Rock Your Baby.”  KC and the Sunshine Band became the first act to score four #1 pop singles in one 12-month period since the Beatles in 1964.  Three of those singles also crossed over to become #1 R&B tracks.

KC’s third album, Part 3, released in 1976, also went triple platinum and contained the #1 singles “I’m Your Boogie Man,” “Shake Your Booty” and “Keep It Comin’ Love.”  The band’s string of hit singles continued with “Boogie Shoes,” which was included on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, “Please Don’t Go” and “Yes, I’m Ready,” a duet with high school friend Teri DeSario.  KC returned to the charts in 1983 with “Give It Up,” which also hit #1 in the UK.

KC’s success in music has earned him an extensive list of accolades including an American Music Award for Best R&B Artist in 1975 and a songwriting Grammy for Best R&B song for “Where Is The Love,” which was recorded by Betty Wright.  He also received a Grammy Award for Album of the Year, as well as Producer of the Year in 1978 for his work on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.  In 2001, KC was honored with the NARAS Governor’s Award, the highest honor given by a chapter of the Academy.  He received a coveted Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002, where Dick Clark and music producer Michael Lloyd turned out to honor him.  This particular recognition represents the passion that KC has in writing music, implementing elements of various eras in his songs, proving him to be a passionate, veteran craftsman.  All of these career highlights are chronicled in his book, That’s The Way I Like It –The Harry Wayne Casey Story, which was published that same year.

KC’s music continues to be a favorite today.  His songs have appeared in ads for companies like General Motors, Burger King, Payless Shoes, Papa John’s Pizza, Old Navy and Nick at Nite.  His music has also been featured in over 200 commercials and movies such as Forrest Gump (“Get Down Tonight”), Boogie Nights (“Boogie Shoes”), Boys Don’t Cry (“Rock Your Baby”), Rush Hour (“Get Down Tonight”), Carlito’s Way (“Rock Your Baby,” “Shake Your Booty” and “That’s The Way I Like It”) and Austin Powers in Goldmember (“Shake Your Booty”).  In the summer of 2003, KC also had a cameo in the feature film The In-Laws starring Michael Douglas and Albert Brooks.

KC’s songs are regularly heard at sporting events, were featured during Opening Ceremonies of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy and he even performed a free concert in Salt Lake City for the 2002 Winter Olympics. No stranger to the small screen, KC’s songs have been featured in such shows as Desperate Housewives, Ally McBeal, American Bandstand’s 50th Anniversary Party and most recently American Idol and Dancing With The Stars with the help of the USC marching band.  Additionally, KC and the Sunshine Band have the distinction of having made more appearances on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve than any other artist in the program’s history!
